Total Commander Advanced

Filed under: Software — Guus @ 7:19 pm

Total Commander is file manager I use on a daily basis. It looks like the old dos program Norton Commander. Until a couple years ago this application was widely known as Windows Commander. But Microsoft suewed them for using the Windows word, so you know what happens then…

Today I browsed their site and looking for a way the open .jar files directly without renaming them to zip. The answer:”Just press CTRL-PageDown”. Taaadaaa. But that’s not why I am posting this article.
I found out that there also nice plugins available. I downloaded a view and tried them:

Iso plugin - Just open .iso cd images like an archive.

Disk Dir Extended - Creates a list file with all selected files and directories, including subdirs (e.g. as an index for CD-ROMs). It is called like a packer (Files->Pack)!

Avi plugin - Create AVI video files (from BMPs), open AVI files with Ctrl+PgDn and extract frames/the sound with F3!

SFTP plugin - Access remote servers via secure FTP (FTP via SSH). Requires SSH2.

These tools make Total Commander more useful. I didn’t know it was possible.
